Thinking about this, I bet a restart is necessary, or at least a restart

Have you updated the version of LightDM? Please provide the output of
'apt-cache policy lightdm'.

No, a restart is not necessary.
Another thing I thought of. Do you happen to have the unity8-desktop-
session-mir package installed as well? If so, then a change is needed.
I have an MP to get this fixed in Trusty, but the SRU process takes a
while. In the meantime, I will upload a test
I don't believe I have unity8-desktop-session-mir installed. I'll have
to double check this, but the laptop mentioned above had a largely new
installation that was not setup by myself.
