Mine what really messed up...Res was bad and trying to boot .12 kernel did not
work for me...
I had to cp menu.lst~ to menu.lst to get back my triple boot to work...
then I focus my attention on the video,
cp xorg.conf.save to xorg.conf and now i'm back to normal...
I was looking at the xorg.conf
nowshining: Yeah, what I meant to say was: Please don't this when gutsy
is actually released!

I have the same problem. Using nv works but without 3D, so I use kernel
.12 with nvidia awaiting new update. These are the kinds of mistakes
that will drive people back to Vista/XP if they try out Ubuntu, so
please try not to break stuff like this with updates.

I have experienced this problem as well with the latest updates.
The "nvidia" drivers fail.
The restricted drivers manager will not start stating "You need to
install the package linux-restricted-modules-2.6.22-13-generic for this
program to work."

I first noticed this when the .12 - rt kernel was installed yesterday (without
my consent)
now reverted to the .12 - generic i386, so 7 places down in the grub-menu to
use my nvidia 7600 :-(

as on the other I also confirm on a Dell 4600i running Nvidia Fx5200
with the Nvidia binary i can get a gui at least on mine because i mved

whatever from the distro, i prob. can get higher res by screen

Same thing happened to me on a Compaq Desktop with flat monitor and NVIDIA

get the right resolutions and not even the right nvidia driver.
I hope this get resolved quickly.

Same problem here. The packet "linux-restricted-modules-generic" shows up as
broken and booting stops short of X.
I've found a different behaviour in Ubuntu and Kubuntu.

Almost the same here, switching back to .12 kernel gets wireless back up
and mostly sane video... stuck at 1024x768 rather than 1440x900 but much
better than 800x600 or 640x480.

Yeah, switching back to .12 kernel version at boot worked fine for me
with the wireless driver. The Atheros driver is the only restricted one
I use, so going back to .12 for other restricted modules may not work.

To Sean:
my thinkpad is fine, when I reboot on .12 an earlier version. The issue seems
to be that the .18 install is 'stalled', greyed out, and when i tried to access
the restricted driver manager, that manages the Thinkpad Intel wireless card, I
go the answer, that it needs .18. So I conclude
someone also found that they could not use wireless to connect to the
internet and there ware some problems with the font after updating.

Same problem here with a Thinkpad R51. I plugged in eth0 for now, but
will try rebooting with the old kernel. Nice to see a bug report so
quickly, but hopefully this can be resolved quickly (I've got a Thinkpad
X22 I'm afraid to reboot now after the .13 kernel update).
