The reason we recommended 0.44.1 is that traditionally 0.X.0 releases
have had regressions that we have had to fix later. Since 0.45.0 was
so close to Ubuntu freeze it was considered safer to stick with 0.44.1
because it has been tested in the field. However it turned out that
0.45.0 actually had
Thanks Jeremy but that doesn't address the concerns raised there. It's good
that you try to assess that 0.45 has no obvious issues in rebuilding GNOME but
it doesn't wave the need for a ffe or the fact that we talked to upstream and
didn't follow their recommendation.

I did test rebuilds for all meson reverse build depends in a PPA. Except
for 2 packages that have been broken for months (both already fixed
upstream), everything appears to build successfully.
