Thanks for this, its a good debdiff but I have doubts if hacking around the ftbfs its the right way to go. I wonder if pkgstriptranslations has been made so unresilient to this on purpose, ie. to really avoid building a package with such a blatant packaging bug; I need to discuss this with

This debdiff looks correct. Cesare, indeed we made pkgstriptranslations so picky because LP does not get along well with empty .po files, and usually they indicate a packaging bug. An FTBFS is very obvious and hard to miss, and avoids accidentally killing all translations in LP with an empty .po
