I talked to Reinhard regarding this and he said he already had plans to
sync ffmpeg-free from debian experimental. So it'll happen :)

I second that it would definitely be useful to have the option for a
free and a nonfree ffmpeg (as the nonfree version is required for a lot
of use cases).
I'm not debian packaging expert, but wouldn't the way to do this be to have two
packages:
ffmpeg-free: replaces ffmpeg, conflicts ffmpeg-nonf
If the binary is still called ffmpeg, how would this help us with regard
to the second point?
I personally think it's too late at this stage of the release cycle to
do any major work on ffmpeg unless there's a killer reason (i.e. 10x
faster h.264 decoding)

Actually, disregard the "depend" part, the binary package is still
called ffmpeg in debian, only the source package is affected.
