Can you attach your /etc/X11/xorg.conf and the output of lspci -vvnn?
Also, I'd like to see your /var/log/Xorg.0.log file from booting each
-12ubuntu8.3 and -12ubuntu8 to see if there are any differences.

I have also experienced X lock-ups with the new 8.3 xserver-xorg-core.
In a period of 2 hours, I had to reboot 3 times due to these lockups.
Since downgrading to xserver-xorg-core_1.3.0.0.dfsg-12ubuntu8_amd64,
everything is stable again.
Note that my lock-ups have nothing to do with suspend, but
Forgot to mention my system specs: Inspiron 600m, Intel Pentium M 1.7
ghz, ATI Mobility Radeon graphics.
