I can reproduce this from within the Server (Hardy March beta) installer
(ie. no X at all).

Same problem for mewith gutsy, and the same with Hardy Beta. getty
processes are here...but when i switch with Ctrl-Alt-F1..F6 - blinking cursor
on a black window.

I have exactly the same problem, on my three-year old Dell Inspiron 6000 with a
Ati Mobility X300.
When I switch to tty1-6 I only See a blinking cursor.
According to ps -e I have 6 Instances of Getty up and running
Some Additional Info:
I have no problem Switching back to X with Alt+F7
It worked
way more information needed.
computer make, graphics card, does this work on gutsy, does going back to x
work, did you see usplash, can you switch to tty during usplash
