I agree. Apparently the only clue I get is that the active window has a white center instead of an orange one. But if the window is small, that amounts to nothing (see enclosed). Furthermore, the indication doesn't change until after I've stopped switching (at least with a compiz desktop cube).

I think it's too late to do anything about this - HardyArtworkFinalDeadline was passed on March 13th, and I think theme colors count. You can use the gnome-color-chooser, I think it's in the hardy universe repo now, to modify this if you want. -- workspace switcher colours are unclear
