I can confirm this as well, running a fresh installation of hardy beta
with nothing extra installed (apart from ccsm).
It'd be a shame if this bug wasn't fixed before the release, because it
was something that impressed me in gutsy.

Hi Bálint, bug #202543 does indeed appear related, however I am not sure
if it is a dupe. That bug seems to imply Custom was an option and
disappeared after following the instructions. This bug implies it never
existed. I can't decide if they are duplicates but I commented in the
other bug
Indeed as Mike pointed out on bug #202543, this bug correspond better to my
case cause I never had the custom option as a choice.
So I confirm this bug on hardy beta, all update done and ccsm installed

Happened to me as well, after upgrading to Ubuntu Hardy Beta from Ubuntu
Gutsy. This can cause some frustration since plugins that are not
selected in the Normal or Extra modes have to be re-enabled in CCSM
everytime Compiz dies and falls back to Metacity.

Yeah, I get this too. It is strange to have no option selected! I
thought before, you could select custom and it would grab and install
compizconfig-settings-manager for you and run it. Where is this
behavior?
