Pretty sure this should be gnome-power-manager, since that controls
remembered settings for brightness. Can an affected user please test
this in Lucid (it does not affect me), and if so, please run apport-
collect 216545 and allow it full access to upload the debugging
information to Launchpad.
This is still an issue with Karmic. I'm experiencing exactly the same
problem. Please let me know what information is needed to finally get
this bug fixed.
Steps to reproduce:
1. System is running on battery, backlight brightness is at the value set in
brightness_dim_battery (50 in my system).
Added ubuntu-meta, until we can find the offending package.

I have an Acer Extensa 4420. I can change the brightness level when on
battery with Fn+arrow keys, but then if I leave the system idle a few
moments and come back, then start typing, the screen goes to its
brightest setting again. These screens are now super bright these days,
almost blinding, and
I have the same problem with a Toshiba Sattelite P105-S6024. I am using
Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy Heron. In the previous version, I could set the

I reproduced this behaviour with the nv driver.
Steps to reproduce this bug:
A1. Set brightness at low level (less than middle)
A2. Wait some time for your screen to dim (how long you'll wait depends on your
setting)
A3. Reactivate screen by moving the cursor
A4. Brightness level is now 50 %
