[Karmic] On a system with nVidia Corporation C77 [GeForce 8200] ,
usplash may ot may not display startup splash correctly depending upon
the resolution to which it's been set in usplash.conf (1024x768=OK,
1920x1080=No Splash, text boot) but the shutdown splash screen (after X
has ran at 1920x1080)
Today I installed Ubuntu 9.04 Beta. The new usplash is still corrupted.
When booting from a Live-CD the boot screen looks good, but after
installing it's corrupted.
I found a workaround to properly display the boot screen:
1) Change the resolution in /etc/usplash.conf to 1024x768
2) Add vga=791 to
I haven't found a fix, but I found out the corruption is different for
different resolutions. I did the following:
I edited /boot/grub/menu.lst by adding "vga=ask" to the kernel line. Now GRUB
asks you which resolution to use for the splash screen. I tried several
resolutions. As far as I can re

I have the exact same problem. My monitor is a HP 2335 running at
1920x1200. I also have problems running at 800x600, though not the same
type of distortion.

I've got exactly the same problem. I'm running Ubuntu 8.10 on a DELL
Inspiron 9400 with a resolution of 1920 x 1200.
Looks like this problem only exists on DELL's with a resolution of 1920
x 1200.

I have the same problem. Dell E1705, resolution 1920x1200. Screen
looks exactly as demonstrated. This occurred after upgrade from 8.04 to
8.10. Base install was 7.10 which was later upgraded to 8.04, which did
not have this problem either.
