Thanks for your report. Can you please attach a test image file and give
exact steps to reproduce?
Can you please also try the newer test version from my PPA,

.. tested with version from your PPA, same result.
Steps to reproduce:
1) open gThumb
2) select one or more pictures
3) resize pictures
- all memory will be used, I have to kill process
tested with different pictures formats.
scaling works with png, bmp but not with jpg!!

Thanks for the fast response. Meanwhile I have tested on my laptop (same
os version, same gthumb version, same pictures) and it works fine there
- seems to be a special problem of the hardware? But I will try latest
version.

I wonder if it's a amd64 problem. Is your laptop i386?
Please give exact steps, for instance:
1. gthumb /usr/share/pixmaps/faces/penguin.jpg
2. Select Image-Resize...
3. Set new dimensions 50x50 and click Scale.
Is this test case able to explode gthumb for you?

ahhh I know now what the problem was please delete this bug
report ... I'm really sorry ...
I wanted to scale the image to 800x800 pixel, but the select box was percent!
So I don't need to wonder
why all my memory was used when trying to scale a 8 megapixel picture to 8*8*8
