Hi Thomas,
Sorry for the late response.
I've upgraded the system to 8.10 and KDE 4.2. Now this problem does not show up
anymore.
The installation upgraded the nvidia drivers.
On your question: I used nvidia proprietary drivers.
Thanks!

Marking as fixed, since it no longer appears in Intrepid. Since Hardy is
still supported (I believe), if someone confirms it there, you can re-
open (although the chances of getting it fixed are probably quite low).

Yup, it's worth posting. I won't be able to solve it, I'm afraid, but I
think it may be handy to post which drivers you're using for your nvidia
graphics card (free/proprietary drivers).

Hi there!
I have found a strange but annoying bug since I work with Hardy (I didn't
have this problem in Feisty). First I thought it was related to kdm4 but I
changed it back to kdm and it is still there. The desktop I use is kde3 (though

Hi Bryce,
Sorry for my late reply.
The problem still persists. But changing desktop using the Kasbar (clicking on
an app that's on another desktop) refreshes the system and solves the issue.
I keep apt-get upgrade-ing the system rather regularly, though I didn't do a
dist-upgrade for a while

Hi lorubenet,
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in
it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue for you? Can you try with
the latest development release of Ubuntu?
Hi again...
I found a very reproducible way of getting the mentioned error. It seems
related to the KasBar.
I do the following:
I'm in a desktop with gvim in it. I click on the KasBar for an application
which has more than 1 instance. This shows (not always... it's not working 100%

Hi Thomas,
I don't think is related to e-mails at all. I believe is not the e-mail itself,
but the pop-up window that tells that an e-mail has arrived.
For instance, certain pop-ups (skype for instance) deleted (I don't know if
this is still true) the content of the panel that stayed below
Hi Ruben
The type of notification kmail uses can be configured for any KDE
application--konsole, kate, kopete, etc. Go to settings, configure
notifications.

It is, as you say, funny. I could understand if something wasn't being
called to redraw after switching desktops, but it being linked
specifically to getting e-mail.
I'm testing whether I can see the same thing under kde4 with ATI
drivers.

I'm not sure it is related to the nvidia drivers...
I've been trying to track down what exactly makes it happen but I cannot
say yet.
I found, however, a way to solve it once it has happened. I use a
KasBar (for all apps I use while my taskbar has only the ones in the
present desktop). When I
