The wireless network was working and is still working after the latest
kernel-upgrade. (Most likely the driver I compiled
a month or three ago is still valid?)
I'm working with kernel uname -r -> 2.6.24-19-generic
and installed the backport-modules
The Ubuntu Kernel Team is planning to move to the 2.6.27 kernel for the
upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release. As a result, the kernel team would
appreciate it if you could please test this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel.

there shouldn't be any risk to your existing system/setup. Also, before

Yes...still an issue. Others have also had problems with wireless
connections on 8.04. I'm still booting from the older kernel generated
last Feb 2008, but still installing updates along the way. Seems
strange that the old kernel still works with all the updates through
August 2008.
