I can not get this to work on Ubuntu 12.04. I have gnome-user-share
installed (don't remember if it was by default) and used Personal File
Sharing to enable Receive Files in Downloads folder over Bluetooth
(tried enable Share public files over Bluetooth as well). The Nokia

In my desperation I tried a 0a12:0001 Cambridge Silicon Radio, Ltd

a kernel Oops and dbus and compiz crashing before a total lock-up. Oh

Enabling Receive files over Bluetooth is enough to make it work for
me, but I don't understand
1) Why this is disabled by default
2) Why the setting is in such an obscure location. Personal File Sharing cannot
be found in System Settings in 12.04, nor via the default Bluetooth manager, so

I am still not happy (on Lucid at least). Why should it be necessary to
enable Share public files over Bluetooth when I just want to receive
files on the computer? I have already enabled Receive files over
Bluetooth.

It is installed by default in lucid, so you'll be happy.

Hello Baptiste,
In Karmic, I installed gnome-user-share but it did not replace gnome-bluetooth
as a package. Also, System Preferences Bluetooth shows the same dialog as
before (there's nothing about file transfers or sharing). I thought of removing
gnome-bluetooth, but gnome-user *requires*
Nevermind, it was under Preferences Personal file sharing (sorry).
Should this package be required/recommended by either gnome-desktop-
environment or ubuntu-desktop? I think it'd be a nice improvement to
new-user experience.

Baptiste, can you tell me how can I try bluetooth file transfer with
gnome-user-share? In system - preferences - bluetooth - general I can only
see a voice in the section file transfer that says share files from public
folder but then I don't know ho to use it.
Have I to create a share into a
Could you please try with gnome-user-share (with replace gnome-bluetooth

I find a way to reproduce the issue (I have an Italian installation so I try to
translate the windows labels):
- I start an Hardy Heron 8.04 live CD
- by default Bluetooth preferences are other devices can connect in the first
tab, input and network services enabled in available services tab and
nokia n95 with latest firmware - still have sporadic sending failed
problems. how do i debug this?

This seems to have been fixed in Intrepid. I had some problems sending
files from my N3230 to my Hardy, but now that I've upgraded to Intrepid,
I can now send as well as receive files.

The same problems happens to me in Hardy Heron. Receiving a file via

that it worked ok.

Me too. The problem is with both Nokia 6300 and my sister's Nokia 6120

very annoying.

I also had this problem. The only solution that worked was to revert the
bluez-utils package to the Gutsy version.
Then receiving a file on the computer started working.
