terminal (2.30.1) stable release.
Please reopen if you think the bug is still alive in a previous version of
gnome-terminal still supported.
(not sure, but this bug were fixed upstream some time ago)

fwiw I think this bug is indeed Invalid. The size of the heap is the
responsibility of glibc to manage and it appears (from what I've quickly turned
up with google) to not aggressively shrink heap sizes.
To show a memory leak you would need to run multiple iterations of the test in
tabs of the
On startup...
mem usage: gnome-terminal - VirtMem 52, ResMem 15.1, WritableMem4.5, SharedMem
10.5, XServerMem 6kb , Memory 4.5
Run ls...
ls -R # (a 17mb file)
mem usage (1 tabs): gnome-terminal - VirtMem 154.3, ResMem 116.8,

is this still an issue with gnome-terminal from intrepid? vte and gnome-
terminal has been getting a lot of code rewrite during the 2.24 cycle,

Tested and this isnt fixed in intrepid, also Im not sure why this report
is marked Incomplete , its very easy to test this in a default install
