If no installed package is selected, the delete key works as expected in
the quick search textbox.
I can reproduce this bug following these steps:
1. Start synaptic.
2. Click the quick search textbox and write "synaptic".
3. Click the synaptic package (it should have a green square, meaning it's
The delete and backspace keys work just fine for me. Please make sure
that you have selected the quicksearch box. In other words, you should
see the blinking cursor when pressing the delete key. If you don't see
the blinking cursor, there is no bug as this is exactly how other
programs work like Fi

Problem: When pressing "del" key in the "quick search" textbox, the selected
package is marked for removal.
What should happen: The "del" key should act as it does in every other textbox,
that is, it should delete the character next to the cursor.

The location of your pointer does not affect what is selected. For
instance, if I press backspace in this edit box, the last character I
typed is removed, even if my pointer is in the URL box area, because the
edit box is selected.
I'm marking this as invalid since I don't really see this as being

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. If you select a package in Synaptic and press the delete
key, the package will be marked for removal. That is the intended
action. I'm not sure what the quick search area has to do with this.
