It appears I am having the same problem (or a variation). Xorg doesn't lockup but I become unable to click with the mouse. I am able to use the keyboard as well as move the mouse (useless if I can't click). I can start some programs but other programs never start complaining about RANDR missing. Re

Ok, I think I've found the cause .. looks like it could be the "Xinerama" setting. (i.e. graphics card independent) This is going to hit anyone with more than one screen. (anyone who's tried Twinview and Xinerama on a decent graphics card won't be using twinview!) I'm running 4 screens here ..
