Did anybody actually thought deprecating KDE3 kioslaves without a proper
replacement would'nt cause problems on many apps? I'm stunned.
At work, we used to run Quanta under Kubuntu but now none of the
mentionned workarounds are efficient enough for production use. Many of
us actually switched

Anyway, it would be way to late for either KDE3 kio slaves or a KDE4 version of
Quanta for Kubuntu 9.04.

And what about quanta for kde4 ?
The svn repository seems to be very active but i didn't find any deb package
and i can't build it.
Is there anybody who can tell us if a svn version is useable ? (or maybe
a link to learn how to build simply a kde application :)

This bug will probably not be solved for a long time, so we might
consider Quanta 3 deprecated in form of a serious web development
environment.
I'd recommend Aptana community edition: http://www.aptana.com , it has
replaced Quanta at least for me.

it, but I managed to continue to use Quanta just fine using sshfs (as

I am using it in the same way as eNz1m3 and as Davide reported (thanks).
It has a little overhead but for the rest is works fine and am able to
work with Quanta.
It is indeed very disappointing that the community is not able to

I found a workaround with sshfs

I want to use Quanta because I love it, but if you are stuck with this problem
(the missing FISH/SSH support) I can suggest to use Komodo Edit.
It's a good editor, free (but not open source!) with a decent remote editing
support (FTP/SFTP/SCP).

In some cases, there is a (not very elegant or convenient) workaround in
Gnome using GVFS: You can first establish the connection to the server,
then start Quanta and open the remote file from ~/.gvfs/connection_name.
This has worked for me on two different servers already and allows me to
i confirm it's a huge problem for me too...

This is really a problem.
No workaround yet? I'm trying to use some .so coming from the kdebase-
kio-plugins_3.5.10-0ubuntu1~hardy2_i386.deb package (like kio_fish.so)
with no luck...
Thanks.

The SSH/SFTP functionality in KDE3 programs (especially Quanta Plus) is
indeed crucial for editing web pages directly on the server. However, I
doubt that a KDE4 version of Quanta will be available soon. Therefore, I
would strongly suggest to make the KDE3 KIO slaves available on the
standard
I agree with winkler, why aren't the kde3 kio slaves available on
intrepid? makes no sense, since there are a lot of kde3 applications
that need this.
This is a very needed feature.

It appears that there is no kioslave available for quanta in intrepid
right now, the included quanta is still the kde3 version and the
kioslaves for kde3 are not available, which is why you can use fish://,
ftp:// in kde4 applications.
