The git version now runs fine for me, but that's 0.15~git, whereas the
Ubuntu one is still 0.14. Anyway, both run now.

Uh, sounds to me like it always worked fine in upstream, but never in
Ubuntu because Ubuntu patches the defaults.
Is that a fair analysis? If so, this ought to be re-opened until a user
*in Ubuntu* verifies that it is fixed.

I can confirm Segfaults when using alsa or auto detect. Using Tares'
output section mpd is working here, too.

I can confirm that Tares comment works. Also for solving the E: client-
conf-x11.c: XOpenDisplay() failed messages mpd needs to be added to the
pulse audio servers lists. Look at http://mpd.wikia.com/wiki/PulseAudio
under " For Distros where PulseAudio access rights are broken " :D

Okay, if you put :
audio_output {

in /etc/mpd.conf it works again. But without that it gives segmentation
fault.
