I can confirm it working for me, too. My card is: ATI Technologies Inc RS690
[Radeon X1200 Series] (It's the 690G onboard video, desktop version).
It also seems faster for me too, at least in some flash games I tried.
@ Артём Попов: Thanks for explaining that. It didn't show up as an
update,
Accepted into intrepid-proposed, please test and give feedback here.
Please see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for
documentation how to enable and use -proposed. Thank you in advance!

Status: In Progress = Fix
Didn't make it to the mirrors yet, but I've downloaded debs by hand from
launchpad-librarian - everything works as expected, even seems better in
2D than the proprietary driver :) Thanks for the fix!

Sorry for the noob question (but I am one ;)
Will it completely replace the -nodither patched version of the driver? And how
can I tell it did, after I install the update?
Thanks

Спосибо, Артём! However, this is a very intrusive patch which needs
testing on lots of different hardware to make sure it didn't regress.
What's your card model?

OK, I applied the nodither patch (amd64) and reverted to using radeon(instead
of fglrx) driver to test.
It worked great getting to the desktop, using it now.
However, I didn't notice first because I had set automatic login, but I still
have the issue with huge fonts on the gdm login screen.
I
Guys, if the ~nodither deb above does *not* solve the issue for you,
then you don't have this bug, but some other unrelated bug that just
shares similar symptoms. So in this case you should file a new bug
report.
Also, I've written up some troubleshooting/workaround documentation for
startup
I put a +1, this is a big issue :S
Zaunpfosten You have to download the packages of radeonhd manually (on
packages.ubuntu.com) then install them on commandline and then to add
manually radeonhd on xorg :/
Nevertheless, that what i did, and it worked...but that's not a nice way
for easy-to-use
Hadrien Dussuel: Do you mean that radeonhd is not even in the
repositories now, so you can't get it with apt-get? That would be really
bad for us users, as we would have to download it manually from console
(?)
One other option is to install fglrx (I did), but for that I think you
would have to
I opened a thread on ubuntuforums.com about this issue
(http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=964587).
In short:
* the radeonhd drivers _are_ in the repository but _not_ on the CDs (I checked
Kubuntu Alternate + Live)
* the Live CD does not work at all
* One is able to install the system
Sorin Enache: Yeah hm sorry, i forgot to mention that i had only a wifi
connection and i didn't manage to make it work in commandline mode (..at
least i tried), so i've downloaded the package with another pc ! ...but
as Zaunpfosten said, the packages are in the repository but not on the
cd ...

I think this is the same in my case
I have an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2400
* 8.04 worked fine out of the box even with the live CD
* 8.10 alpha got worked if I added (Driver radeonhd) manually during install
* since 8.10 beta I am not able to start X. The driver radeonhd (which worked

RC livecd still fails to boot successfully.
RadeonHD is also missing from the livecd, so manual installation of
radeonhd is required prior to starting X and the installation.
I think either radeon-nodither or radeonhd (by default) ought to be
included before the release, otherwise there's going
Hi,
I just upgraded to intrepid and ran into the same issue as mentioned
above, a black screen when starting X.
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~# lspci | grep ATI
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc RV630 [Radeon HD 2600
Series]
01:00.1 Audio device: ATI Technologies Inc RV630/M76 audio
I can't even start Intrepid now.(i've updated again from 8.04.1 to 8.10
with update-manager)..even if i change Xorg to radeonhd or ati. It lead
me to a No screen found.
I linked the logs here.

Hi. While waiting for the fix, just a quick heads up:
I have the same onboard AMD RS690 as Артём Попов. I've been having issues with:
- Ubuntu Alpha 5 (I think) livecd - black screen at X start, I gave up then to
wait for the beta
- Ubuntu Beta x86 livecd - same thing
- Kubuntu Beta x86 and x64

Hmm, the one change that occurred prior to your 9-23 update was a patch
to enable dithering on certain cards. Let me build you debs omitting
that particular change so we can isolate if that's what caused the
regression.

I've built some debs with the dithering patches disabled here. Please
install the appropriate one(s) for your system; I suspect they'll make
the issue go away, in which case we'll want to adapt the patches so they
don't trigger the issue on your system:

Hi, thank Артём Попов for this link to this bug ! (excuse me but i don't

I've managed to start the desktop live cd by adding Driver radeonhd in the

So i didn't have the small popup that say to reconfigure xorg / xserver
The latest driver upgrade from yesterday (xserver-xorg-video-ati
