edit: It seems really to be something related to ext3 because (as I now
realize :D ) the crash appears on the machine with an ext3 /home and two
other partitions in ext3 whereas on another machine with /home and / in
reiserfs and another partition in ntfs it doesn't appear!

I have a hint about this issue. gnome-system-monitor is crashing only
when opening as user the "Filesystems" tab. Change the following key in
gconf and you'll be able to use at least the other tabs:
/apps/procman/current_tab. It is set to 3 per default (the "Filesystems"
tab). Change it to some val

I found an interesting fact about this bug.
I installed ubuntu 8.10 inside windows XP using wubi installer. This
crash does not occur in it. The I did a full system update and
restarted. I could not reproduce this bug under that installation
however.
May be then this is related to ext3 filesystem
I changed it back to new. Maybe I should have done that after I
submitted the missing information.

Am having similar problem in Intrepid Ibex.
System manager crashes with the error:
terminate called after throwing an instance of 'Glib::FileError'
when I click on the 'Processes' tab.
