I had exactly the same problem after installing amsynth with synaptic on ubuntu jaunty 64bit. never had problems on previous ubuntu versions... so i uninstalled it, went to amsynth website and downloaded source, compiled and now it works perfect. -- buffer overflow in amsynth in 8.10
