Just patched to 2.6.27-11 from proposed and can confirm like Kai that
internal speaker appears to be louder (after you set it to 65% and going
steadily up to 100%, where you can almost hear the sound from 10 feet
away) but the headphone jack has virtually no sound at 100%. I just
posted a hardware
Just booted 2.6.27-10 from proposed, unfortunately it didn't change anything on
my Latitude E6400. I can barely hear anything with master set to 65% (while
everything else is at 100%), rapidly getting louder when turning it up from
there.
Note that this is only true for the integrated headphone

SRU Justification
Impact: Some Dell laptops are nearly inaudible unless alsamixer controls
are set to maximum.
Patch Description: Add equilizer controls in the codec driver for these
laptops.
