I seem to be having the same or at least quite similar problem (don't
know enough about ubuntu to be sure):
After updating to 8.10 my desktop computer has started having irregular
kernel panics (caps lock scroll lock flashing, requiring hard boot)
almost every day. Most of the time either

The record so far is 11 crashes. Normally is it around 4, and always
