That corrected my problem! As you say, PCM was muted!
Thanks a lot, goto. Anyway, I don't know whether close this bug, since I did
not ever muted PCM; updating to 8.10 did that for me. Maybe the bug as a "bug"
itself should be marked as "fixed" whenever that issue doesn't occurr. But
maybe that
I (I am no expert) think that PCM is is muted in the screenshot you uploaded. I
think the |MM| under PCM means it is muted. Select PCM and press M to unmute
(maybe there must be no sound applications running in order to do that). Maybe
it helps.
You could also try a "alsactl restore".
