To get the mic working in skype (if it works on the sound recorder but not work
on skype) install with apt-get the "pavucontrol". Then open it, go to "Input
Devices", unlock the input channels (clicking in the padlock) and then set the
volume of the seccond channel to cero.

I guess it's solved, skype brought a new version 2 weeks ago which
improves the pulseaudio capabilitys, and reagarding the original
problem, I didn't post yet that you have to enable mic jack or internal
mic as checkbox in the soundmanager, cause the switch isn't done
automaticly like in windows.
You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in
it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue for you. Can
you try with the latest Ubuntu release? Thanks in advance.
