Thank you for your suggestion. But I used several different devices and all available ports; they all show the same behaviour as described above. After dualbooting into Windows XP, USB 2 works normal. If I unbind ehci-hcd, also no problem (but USB 1 speed). Native USB 1 devices have no problem.

Björn, could you try a different usb cable? I had the same issue with an usb disk, and in the end it turned out to be a bad USB cable. -- Unable to enumerate usb device https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/318085 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is

The tip in #4 (echo -n :00:1d.7 /sys/bus/pci/drivers/ehci_hcd/unbind) doesn't work for me (write error: no such device). With the latest upstream kernel and linux-image-2.6.35-5-generic from maverick, USB storage devices again seem to work okay for me. (But I haven't tested thoroughly

I have to correct myself: I tried the maverick kernel (see above) and a mainline kernel (Linux schleppi 2.6.35-999-generic #20100653 SMP Fri Jun 11 12:07:19 UTC 2010 i686 GNU/Linux) and both show the exact same error like the lucid stock kernel. Regards, Björn -- Unable to enumerate usb

Most curious: I found out that the unable to enumerate messages stop and the device is recognized a lot quicker if I'm on a VT. It takes only seconds to a few minutes, compared to being in X, where I couldn't yet get it to work. It's recognised as full speed (USB 1.1) though. Not optimal.

Hi Toon, If you could also please test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-

I have some even more bizarre behavior to report with regards to this bug. The above symptoms only seem to occur when the usb key was plugged into a Windows XP machine right before trying to mount it in Ubuntu. I have been able to reproduce this multiple times. Case 1: attach to a XP box --

I would like to second Bryan Hoyt's comments that this bug is very real and not the same as other bugs that sound similar (not a device problem, kernel problem, boot problem, etc.). I have been experiencing the *exact* same symptoms: 1) Plug in usb key. 2) Key does not automount, but I/O light

I've been able to confirm this is a USB 2 bug. Executing the following command to disable the EHCI module enables me to mount the device as a USB 1 device (but obviously it's not a fix for the bug, because I need to be able to copy large files onto the device at a reasonable speed): echo -n
