Very similar problem: Dell Inspiron 1525n laptop with built-in digital
microphone. Worked fine with 7.10 and 8.04LTS. Upgraded to 8.10 and
Skype stopped working. Fiddled with many settings and got it working,
but digital mic input is so low, it's almost inaudible. This has been

Confirm for Ibex and Jaunty. My line in and microphone have very low
capture gain. Audio does get recorded, but at a very low volume.
alsa 1.0.19.

I performed the capture with and without pulseaudio. There was no
difference.
