I also had this bug on Kubuntu Jaunty, while Intrepid worked well. (I had also
reported it as bug 339957.)
As of today's updates my system (Dell E6400) now works perfectly in Jaunty, as
well (could it be the update from 2.6.28-10 to 2.6.28-11?).

In fedora works now. I've found on one page a patch that was included in
26.29-rc7

I can confirm this on Jaunty too (fully updated), using the same driver
on a Sony VAIO VGN-FZ31M, I have no mic input listed, not even in
alsamixer.

I don't have your options. In the preferences dialog there's no
Digital Mic1 neither Digital Input Source
I have DAC0, DAC1, Import0 Mux, Import1 Mux, Mux, Mux 1, Analog
Loopback, Analog Loopback 1, Input Source, Input Source.

That's strange. Did you change any options? I've tested this with a new
installation of Ubuntu 8.10 and it works.

I also had this problem with my new Dell E6400. But for me it turned out
that this is not a bug. This post solved my problem:

So here's how you can fix it..
Double click on the sound icon and open your volume control. Select the device

I noticed that loading snd_hda_intel with model=ref fixes the
microphone, but disables headphones!!
