I can give 2 examples (devices which I have): - saitek gamepad with force feedback -- sudo needed to use force feedback - wireless logitech mouse -- sudo needed to ask mouse for battery status (using revoco utility) In both cases sudo needed, because /dev/input/eventX devices have 0664
