Hi, It's not a big issue. It just struck me that the installer could ping an ubuntu server. If it failed, it could ask for a proxy configuration; if it succeeded, no proxy would be needed. On slow connections, having interruptions for unnecessary questions makes the installation process more

Given that jaunty is EOL next month, people shouldn't be installing it. For active releases, I doubt we'd SRU the installer given that this would change the behavior. So, I'm going to remove the jaunty tag, and target this to Later. Until somebody tries this on the current installer, the status

Hi Jack, thanks for taking the time to file this bug report (oh so long ago now!) and help make Ubuntu better. Its not entirely clear what steps you took where the only question you were asked was how to configure the proxy, nor is it clear whether or not this method of installation is expected
