Seems to be solved in latest Kubuntu Gutsy (Beta) version. All konsole

I've played with the scim-qtimm source package a little. It seems the
Debian patch "10_qt-immodule_install_dir.dpatch" triggers this error for
me. However, this patch is not the issue itself - it just sets the

I don't need scim-qtimm, but this package is installed by default on kubuntu,
and I think that is ugly that the people that is trying linux by first time has
this bug. It is not a big deal, but for those who are trying by first time, it
is a bug that everyone can see.

Isn't there already a workaround, i.e., uninstalling scim-qtimm?
If you must use scim-qtimm and can't bear with this bug (I personally
don't see a non-transparent terminal very big deal), then the best
chance to get a fix is by analyzing the bug and figuring out where it

The kubuntu developers doesn't seem to have very big interest in this bug so I
think this bug has to be solved by the KDE developers.

I confirm the bug in feisty too. I'm using Kubuntu with it_IT locale. I
had to remove scim-qtimm and all the related scim stuff for the
transparency in konsole to work.

I'd guess at a majority, but I may be wrong. ;-)

Yes, I understand the reason.
I was referring to Christoph Roeder's comment above. I think that the
mention of Breezy (instead of Dapper) there is most probably just a slip

The reason that it didn't happen in breezy is that scim wasn't
introduced before dapper. And I think oracel means that he upgraded to
dapper from breezy which of course also would have installed scim.

I've now tried using en_US locale, de keymap in a Ubuntu 6.06's KDE

By new session I mean like a new tab in konsole.
Now I've installed the following packages on my dapper machine: scim-qtimm
scim-pinyin im-switch
skim was allready installed.
Then I logged out and in again.
I see there is a little icon in the right bottom corner with skim now.
Another difference

scim-qtimm is a QT-plugin and since KDE and therefore konsole is coded in QT it
interferes.
