Next time you get a black screen, after restart please attach your
/var/log/Xorg.0.log.old
Most probably it does not help to run xfix, just leave the recovery
mode and it will be the same. xfix will only reset your xorg.conf if it
has been modified it, which you have not.

** Description changed:
Sometimes I get a blank screen at login and monitor led just keeps
blinking (it gets switched off). Then I have to restart and do a xfix to
get into Ubuntu again. This happens once in 10 times. I am using open
driver provided. I am not using proprietary ati driver.
Do you actually have to do xfix? Isn't it enough to restart the
machine?
** Summary changed:
- Problem with open ati driver
+ monitor sometimes powers down at startup
** Description changed:
- There are two problems
- 1)
- I get resolution(frequency) error(pop up) messaage before login screen
See,Some times there is no problem(i mean ubuntu runs normal,no blank
screen at login screen). But sometimes when i get a blank screen,i
restart(sometimes successful) .Still if i get blank screen,i restart
and do an xfix. That solves my problem.
