I do understand the concern. As for the best practices I think the history of
this bug confirms:
- there a patch that claims to fix the bug (see the forum linked from the
description of this bug)
- I can you reproduce the bug myself (and so have other people)
- Fedora latest stab

Yes, it sure still is. Internal microphone still doesn't work at all.
Amazingly enough on latest stable Fedora (testing with LiveCD) it works
great.
