Also, can you please provide the exact brand and model for the external
monitor you're using? Looks like a Dell from
30 Dell WFP 3008
The bug disappear when compiz is not active, so it may not be related to the
monitor.
I'd suspect the intel driver or the COMPOSITE extension of xorg.
But I'll try with another monitor, but that will also be with VGA
instead of HDMI...

Screenshot does not work, but camera does...
You can see the path the gnome-terminal window took
to reach its destination at the bottom of the interanl
LVDS screen of the laptop...
You can also see the 1024x768 part that is always
correctly refreshed...

Another side effect of this bug happens when using synergy
to share the mouse and keyboard to another computer.
The cursor goes to the other computer just when passing
the 1024x768 limit. It should normally do that when crossing
the side of the screen.

Another effect: in nautilus filemanager's combobox
to choose between modes (icon, list view, etc...)
when clicked, the choices appear only in the
1024x768 portion of the screen. so if the window
is in here, the choices appear at the right place,
whereas if the window is placed outside, the
choices
