Good evening, Michel,
Thank you for giving me the correct package. I tried uninstalling
kexec and of course I didn't have that.
sudo apt-get uninstall kexec-tools
does the job. This should be fixed - it must have something to do with
a phase in the Jaunty development...

Following a friend suggestion (Frederic Peters) , I've de-installed kexec-tools
(this tool is without interest for me)
From that the PC is able to restart normally.
So two questions:
- Why a standard installation of kexec-tools in Ubuntu 9? (I never ask to have
the possibility to

I've exactly the same problem
I've tried with sudo shutdown -r now and it give the same result
Her a message.log extract:

Great, I was just about to give up hope... thought I was an isolated
case. Anybody out there with a suggestion?

I'm still having the same issue... restart doesn't give me a chance to
get back to GRUB and boot into Windows, which is a bit inconvenient.
And anyway, karmic has this terrible kitten-sitter bug that has me wary:

It doesn't seem to be a problem for me though now I'm on karmic.
Ugh - if that's the cure, I'll take the sickness... Karmic isn't even
out in Alpha yet!

I've had this problem too. It doesn't seem to be a problem for me though
now I'm on karmic.

Since upgrading to Jaunty, a restart means simply restarting Jaunty; I
get the shutdown progress bar, then immediately the startup progress
bar. No GRUB.
