i hope i can help to make it reproduceable , i have nearly the same problem
with my raspberry.
With the User PI it works fine. with the user blabla (mentioned below) it
works partly.
#error described:
-user blabla connects to pi ,
-blabla get the sesman log window and then the prepared
solved
it was a LXDE problem , as soon as i recognized this i could get a work
around .
Problem : with the new user(blabla) not plugged in on a physical monitor , and
first running xrdp
there was a .cache folder . but it was completly empty .
Solution : i just copied the pi user

release, please file a new report via a terminal:

Fixed it by removing xrdp and associated dependencies (vnc4server and
vnc4-common), installing tightvnc and then installing xrdp (which then
doesn't use vnc4).

Can you expand on what you mean by use tightvncserver instead ?
Do you mean uninstall something else and replace it with tightvncserver?
If so, what is that something else?
Do you mean change a configuration file to point to tinghtvncserver? If
so, what configuration file?
Or something else?
