Annoying freeze of some apps (gnome-terminal, xchat, audacious..)
I don't think I've seen the reported symptoms with Lucid. I did experience
complete lockups (about as often as the reported problem
occurred) in Lucid before (and in Karmic), but not anymore.
Not sure if related to this issue, but I see temporary lockups when I play
Urban Terror. I think I had

Still happens for me with latest updates, running 9.04 (64 bit) on an
Intel i5 750 + Gigabyte GA-P55-UD3 system (lspci output below). Very
random, sometimes it occurs three times during an evening, then a week
can pass without nothing (that I notice anyway). The freezes last a
couple of minutes
Not sure what exactly happened, but a recent update fixed the issue. I
haven't had any freezing lately when it used to be 15 or more times a
day.

I'm running karmic and have been doing so for a few weeks now, but since
I have other problems (flash issue with pulseaudio, other drivers
issues), I can't really tell if I encountered that issue or not, though
I have encountered no freeze until now.

Annoying freeze of some apps
I have a similar problem on my system with a Gigabyte GA-P55-UD4P
motherboard running 64 bit Ubuntu 9.04: periodically (every few hours)
all open gnome-terminal windows will freeze for a few minutes (usually
1-10 minutes) then unfreeze and return to normal. I haven't been able
to link the
Actually, it does happen in at least Firefox as well. Not as much as in
gnome-terminal though. When things unfreeze, all frozen apps seem to
unfreeze around the same time (at least both apps in my case).

I have the same problem as well on Dell Optiplex 760
00:00.0 Host bridge: Intel Corporation 4 Series Chipset DRAM Controller (rev 03)
00:01.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation 4 Series Chipset PCI Express Root Port
(rev 03)
00:03.0 Communication controller: Intel Corporation 4 Series Chipset HECI
I also have the same problem. 9.04 - 64 bit. X-chat is the main thing
effected. Occasionally it goes to other windows - but I believe the
origin is xchat as it's always the first one to freeze.

Annoying freeze
We are experiencing this problem randomly on about 20 workstations, all
with similar hardware and running 64-bit Ubuntu 9.04. Some applications
freeze and some don't. The situation lasts for 1-2 minutes.
The lcpci output is attached.
Gilles PIETRI: Looking at your lspci output, the hda_intel is
I think there is a lib doing something wrong, or a driver not working properly.
I installed a fresh 9.04 64 bits system on this setup, and I'm affected as well.
I can now say that xterm is not affected by this, neither seems to be gedit.
I'm gonna go further in checking libs used, and drivers
I have the same problem on a new installation of 9.04 (32-bit). It
seems to happen more often when audacity is playing, and so I initially
tried to file a bug under that app.
Typically, I'll be at work, with several gnome-terminal windows open and
several firefox windows. If I play some music
I've the same problem. Passed from 8.10 to 9.04. Sometimes some apps
freezes and I've to wait for a lot of time Very annoying problem.

OK.. I guess I will never know. Out of frustration, I installed a Ubuntu
9.04 64 bits on this computer, and now it's working fine.. We shall see
until when ;)
I guess this can be closed, since I won't go further probably (unless
someone is interested.)

Annoying freeze of some apps
I'm experiencing the same problem, if not similar enough: suddenly, most
applications freeze for a couple of minutes and then unfreeze. dmesg
doesn't show any messages for the moment of the problem. My system is
fully updated. The PC is new, so I haven't run any previous version of
Ubuntu on it.
