It will indeed show the dot folders IF it is already in one, which is
the way it sets up a new account. However, when trying to browse to one
manually where the setting has gotten lost, it does NOT show any dot
folders. It shows everything else but no folders that begin with a dot.

The problem is still there but I found a workaround that was somewhat
difficult to find. Even knowing it's there, I couldn't find it just now
for you. "Browse" cannot find dot folders and that is the most obvious
way of locating it.

I don't understand your report:
1) If you don't see a directory, even with "display hidden files", maybe you
deleted it?
2) You can paste the path to the local directory of a mail account: under
"Server settings" -> "Local directory"
