I don't think that any dev care about this issue but I will give the receipt that work to me just in case that will work with other people... Use aptitude to do the upgrade. apt-get, dpkg or synaptic are giving the error but I have been able to do the upgrade using aptitude. Don't ask me why. --

The offending code was introduced in 1.15.3ubuntu1 and is in the kill_bad_alternatives code.
