Dear, Maybe for a sanity option you should reinstall your system with the last
ubuntu version (9.04), I tried to install this library in my computer and I
hadn't problems (I am using Ubuntu Jaunty). Anyway,if you want to still using
your actually version, in resume:

Long answer.
I had 8.10 installed and running for months.
Deleting songs in my music folder I blew the file manager (Nautilus).
I reinstalled 8.10 from a CD. I could not boot up.
I reinstalled 6.06. Reformatting the entire disk.
I got the package error upgrading 6.06 to 8.04. Interesting wh
Are you trying upgrade to ubuntu 9.04 or which version?
