same problem with blurred screen, no access to tty using ctrl-alt-f1..6

there are a lot of duplicates or similar bug reports, so i don’t know
which one was the one, i was encountering.
also i had problems with my graphics card and installed and uninstalled
a lot of packages. nevertheless:
my ttys were broken with weird random noisy color, but were still
responsive
Not fixed on Ati 9600. Well atleast on my system it is not. Of course
once splash is removed from kernel line it works wonderfully. Also
confirmed to not work on nvidia 8600 gts from a user on IRC.

Just after this morning updates, my tty's are back (now on
2.6.31-14-generic). So it seems fixed for me now.
Also different is that after the white ubuntu logo, it now shows my
volumes being checked with fschk in text mode, before starting X.

I got this problem after yesterday update of usplash and nvida packages. Screen
look similar to this from initial report(although colors are diffrent,but they
change each time I'm going from X to tty). I don't have vga=791 in grub2 boot
line, but changing splash to nosplash fixes it for me. I

I found the problem. My kernel commandline have vga=791 for some reason.
This cause the break the screen and show a black screen. If I remove
this line on grub works, but the letters then are huge. Maybe help show
a warning if the vga value is bigger or it is set and it dont support
(avoid false
Alright, not exactly sure what's going on, but if it is blanking before
the splash screen and comes back when gdm's login screen draws, then the
failure is occurring prior to X starting up, so it is not an X.org
issue. Refiling to usplash, although it might be a kernel bug, not
sure...

Do you mean, it is black on initial boot or only when doing tty
switching? If it's black on boot, at what point does it turn black?
Right after usplash or only after login or...?

(the linux image message bla bla) and then the screen go to black.
Seconds after (30 seg approximately) the window login appear. If I put
