Since Kernel .18, no more sound for me. I am stuck with .17. Nothing in

Please make sure you ahve an output + input profile set in the hardware
tab of the volume control preferences. Please also make sure you have
the correct input device selected under the input tab in the same volume
control preferences.

Well, I just reinstalled the kernel and installed linux-backports-
modules-alsa-karmic-generic ... Well, the sound works on reboot, which
is quite surprising. I'll wait until next kernel upgrade to open the
champagne though...

@DasFox, I know about the unmuting part. The thing was that there was no
hardware to unmute.
Now, with 2.6.31.12 it works again (builging from source).

replace the

Gorka you have to make sure you unmute the sound, by default Alsa might
mute the sound and then you also have to go the system preferences for
sound and make sure to change the sound settings, picking a different
sound option.
