I don't know if this is relevant or not, but I've noticed a similar issue with Jaunty (with all 4 classes of updates enabled). Some recent update appears to have broken the default GNOME theme a bit. The stuff in the upper right corner isn't in the same order anymore and the Trash is no longer in

It occurs to me that I did recently increase the resolution slightly and then later I restarted gdm via ssh (so someone else could log in locally). That's the only thing I can think that could have rearranged all the panel stuff like that. Sorry for the noise in this bug report thread if that's
