I can confirm both that this bug persists in lame 3.96.1-2ubuntu1 under Feisty (as a matter of fact, on my system lame grinds to a virtual halt) and is fixed in 3.97-0.0 which I grabbed and backported from Gutsy. Consequently, the bug should disappear with the upcoming final release of Gutsy.

Seems like I was reporting too early: Another CD fails again, encoding with lame 3.97 just stops in the middle of the process. The only thing that helps is aborting lame and re-trying. Of course, this is nothing but a temporary solution. By the way, I'm using lame's `--preset standard' option.
