I run Kubuntu 9.10, and now have the same symptom, but with Blender
2.49b.
Blender worked fine a month or so, but now when I start it, xorg starts sucking
CPU.
The mouse-pointer can move on one screen (my left), but clicking or dragging
does not work. When moving it to the right screen the curso
Does the problem persist with the daily build of audacity [1]?

I am also having this problem. I suspect it may have something to do
with Pulse Audio but not sure. When recording in Audacity in Karmic the
system becomes unresponsive. And sluggish. Remenicent of the Firefox

@Andres Monroy-Hernandez,
So how to explain that the same audacity binaries work without problems on
Jaunty?
I assume that there's bug somewere else and audacity just showed it up ( but I
can be wrong ;-) ).
What's yours hardware?
Could you try to backtrace the problem, too?

Sorry for spamming with comments but it might be usefull to tell that this high
CPU usage is the same with all the possible situations: audacity minimized,
maximized, displaying/refreshing voice graphs or not (everything while voice
recording) and even with paused recording waiting for sound fro
I can't run "/usr/bin/Xorg -keeptty -dumbSched" because of my "dualseat"

I've tried to do X backtrace with guide from
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Backtracing but I'm not sure if logs from it are
usefull - I thought backtrace from gdb should be bigger.
I've installed "xserver-xorg-core-dbg libgl1-mesa-dri-dbg
xserver-xorg-video-radeon-dbg" packages before gdb.

Since I now do some audio recordingToday I've installed deb packages from
getdeb for Jaunty which I've used on Jaunty before upgrade to Karmic.
I've tested both audacity_1.3.8-1~getdeb1_i386.deb (with
aaudacity-data_1.3.8-1~getdeb1_all.deb) and

And for make it clear - the problem persists with desktop effects
enabled and disabled, too. I've tried to close as many applications (and
processes as I can) and the high CPU usage was there, too.

Please note that X is a server and as such it acts on client requests.
Typically high X CPU is an indication of a buggy client process that is
sending excessive requests to the X server. For more information in
determining which client application is causing the high X CPU usage,
