To answer your question, it's most likely a driver bug in the channel
logic. Could be related to scanning. Not sure without digging into the
code. It's certainly not meant to behave that way.
If it happens again, please use "ubuntu-bug network-manager" to rep
ok, i powered on the laptop and plugged in the utp to run the collect
for you and while typing suddenly the indicator popped up the message:
wlan connected. and indeed it works. i rebooted the machine at least 3
times before, i suspect it needed a full power cycle.

If you're able to get the system online again, then running the
following command via a terminal or Alt-F2 / Run Application will
collect more debug information from your system and add it the bug:
apport-collect 480352
