So if these hotkeys are not attached to the main keyboard event device,
they might have a separate one. Can you please do sudo lsinput and
check which names also sound plausible? (E. g. on Sony notebooks there
is a Sony Vaio Keys device which is responsible for the hotkeys).

I followed your instructions and also made some checks myself
Apparently the soundcard Mute button and LED are not working with 7
either, the only drivers available are the ones that you can get by
asking the Drivers Manager for a suitable drivers via the Internet...
The keys that are not
I couldn't run the keymap tool (with the -i switch), I can't find the
right package that contains this tool, its not installed by default...
It is. As the README.keymap says, it's /lib/udev/keymap. You already
used it in comment 2.

I followed the instructions at:
/usr/share/doc/udev/README.keymap.txt
before the manual I tried xev which showed nothing even after killing the
stated gnome processes
then I got to the part at the manual suggesting running the following
command:
sudo /lib/udev/keymap -i input/eventX (event4 in
