Looks like my suspend is working again. It seems to have been caused by
the fact that I had downgraded my xserver to an older version under
Ubuntu 9.04 to work around the performance problems introduced for the
Intel graphics in that release.
I now installed xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.9.0-1ubunt
Same problem here, also a T61, upgrade from 9.04 (where suspend worked
flawlessly) to 9.10.
The moonshine LED keeps blinking, but no further action. I have to force
a hard reset with the power button. This occurs with all conceivable
ways by which you could try to suspend: lid close, Fn-F4, GNOME
